the elevation of the sonic experience by combining with a visual element is driving me in most my explorations.
the audio wheel.
this image is a visual representation of the entire song “lose yourself to dance” by Daft Punk.
made with touchdesigner, it is called an audiowheel. every frequency is recorded as a tiny bright pixel. the denser the frequency at a particular part in the song the brighter that area is displayed in the wheel. i.e. every time a snare hits, it is represented by a cluster of bright pixels on the spectrum of the wheel.

video of ‘akkorde’, a song I produced with ableton live for the audio wheel project.
the following work is an implementation of the audio wheel concept. the difference being, that the audio spectrum is not recorded permanently but rather is spiraling, getting ever smaller until it disappears completely. the visual style was chosen to resemble chinese calligraphy paintings (black-ink brush strokes on paper), connecting the aesthetic of the visuals with the buddhist chants in the song. when i produced this song in 2020, the intention was to just create a musical journey piece. it’s meditative nature led me to envision this complementary visual experience in order to enhance the mesmeric qualities of the artwork.
