101 STOOL
101 marks the beginning of my journey into the depths of wood working.
101 is also a place to sit and rest my legs.
I had done many projects working with wood before but I always felt like I lacked some basic knowledge.
101 STOOL was for me more about the process than the end result. I wanted to learn more about the tools used in furniture making and how to use them to achieve the best results possible. I wanted to learn more about the properties of wood and understand the correct applications for different kinds of wood and wood materials. I wanted to learn how to work with wood without using much or no hardware (screws, nails, bolts etc) at all, how to work more efficiently and reduce things to the necessary.
I am very happy with the end result. 101 can continue to grow, with the jigs made in the process I can reproduce and iterate this design efficiently. What I learned in the process had become invaluable knowledge for all my future projects.
-
15mm beech wood multiplex board.
-
Cross halving joints allowing an assembly without any metal hardware.
-
Laser cut rose emblem. I vectorized the rose from a glass engraving my mom had done. This stool was a gift to her.
-
Top layer processed with a lathe to bring out the layers of the multiplex board.
