Website Design for

SOUL SALAD is a health conscious restaurant in Santa Cruz, California. Its delicious menu is attracting many people during the day looking for a quick and healthy meal option. More than half their customers are ordering their salads online for pick-up or delivery. Needless to say, their online presence was important and it was time for an upgrade to their website.

Project Outline:

  • formulate visual identity

  • implement intuitive information architecture

  • create simple design system

  • redesign existing pages

  • design additional pages

First Steps

After my first meeting with the stakeholders I started with visualizing the site’s information architecture and creating some lo-fi wireframes.

Wireframes were designed for mobile view first as most customers accessed the site via smartphone.

Next up

After nailing down IA and page layouts it was time to formulate the visual identity and basic design system. Because the brand did not yet possess a clear VI it was necessary to first ideate on designs for the VI and present these to all stakeholders.

Home stretch

Together with stakeholders the VI was set. Now it was time for me to design the actual pages. The Website was originally built with google sites and although it is very limited in its flexibility for design, it is very simple to use. Because I did not want to leave the owners with a site they could not edit themselves after handoff we decided to keep the google sites site.

Check out the new site here:

“David is phenomenal with his website skills and client relations. We gave him a framework of what we wanted with little direction and he always created a multitude of sample ideas for us to choose from. He also quickly modified based on our suggestions. In the end he produced more than we had hoped. He built us the website we always wanted at an incredible speed. Colors, typeface, design, layout: David does it all. He was easy and fun to work with and very professional. We cannot recommend him enough!”
